PAT BURGESS BIO

Pat Burgess is an Irish singer/songwriter from Leixlip, Co. Kildare. Born in Raheny, Dublin in 1956, he has been actively involved with music for the past 45 years.

In the 70’s Pat performed on the live Dublin music circuit doing solo gigs and guest appearances and around this time he started writing songs .

He performed these gigs with his Suzuki 6 string guitar. The album title derives its name from this old guitar. Pat has written all his songs on this “favourite” guitar, bought in Walton’s Music Shop in 1974 for £55. A highlight of this guitar’s journey included being played at different times by both Mick Jagger and Ronnie Wood in Leixlip with the Rye River Band in the late 80’s. Great days indeed!

Pat is the lead singer and founder member of Irish Americana group The Rye River Band for the past 35 years. He has recorded 2 albums, 1 EP and 2 singles with the band - one a charity single for Dublin Simon. These recordings have included songs composed by Pat. Having established a popular residency for the past 30+ years, The Rye River Band continue to entertain regularly at the world famous Brazen Head Pub on Saturday nights.

The Song Box is Pat’s “debut” album.  It contains 11 original compositions and 1 Traditional song sourced from Pat’s late father Jim Burgess.

The songs on the album are a range of his compositions dating from 1978 to the present time. The genre of music on the album is best described as Folk/Rock and Americana.
